Senior AI Engineer / Lead Machine Learning Engineer

Biotech · AI-Driven Health Platform · Remote (EU & South America)

The Role

This is where AI meets real-world health impact.

We’re a California-based biotech startup building intelligent systems around microbiome data, predictive health, and personalized care.

We’re hiring a Senior AI Engineer / Lead ML Engineer to take ownership of our AI direction — from model design to production systems.

You’ll work directly with the CTO to shape a data-centric organization, integrate AI into core systems, and build scalable infrastructure for long-term growth.

  • Design and deploy machine learning models for:
    • Predictive analytics
    • Personalized health insights
    • Image/data processing
  • Collaborate with biologists, engineers, and product teams
  • Build and scale data pipelines (ETL/ELT) across architectures
  • Integrate models into production systems with reliability + performance in mind
  • Optimize systems for real-time and large-scale workloads
  • Define and lead ML lifecycle governance (validation, monitoring, risk)
  • Ensure compliance with data privacy, ethical AI, and regulatory standards
  • Drive AI strategy and technical roadmap aligned with business KPIs

What You Bring

  • 10+ years building and deploying machine learning systems
  • Strong hands-on coding experience (Python required; Node.js a plus)
  • Experience leading cross-functional technical initiatives
  • Deep understanding of:
    • Supervised / unsupervised learning
    • Classification, clustering, recommendation systems
    • Statistical modeling (regression, probability, Bayesian methods)
  • Experience building scalable data pipelines (ETL/ELT)
  • Strong cloud experience (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas to technical + non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience with data privacy, ethical AI, and compliance (GDPR / US standards)

Nice to Have

  • Experience with healthcare, biotech, or genomics data
  • Background in data governance and regulated environments
  • Contributions to research (publications, patents, open-source work)
  • Experience with real-time or production-grade AI systems

What We Offer

  • 100% Remote — work from anywhere in Europe or South America
  • Flexible, async-friendly work culture
  • Competitive compensation + equity
  • Mission-driven work with real-world health impact
  • Collaborative, research-driven environment
  • Generous paid time off

Why This Role

  • Build AI that directly impacts human health outcomes
  • Own systems end-to-end — not just models
  • Work at the intersection of science, data, and engineering
  • Shape the AI foundation of a growing biotech company

Hiring Process
